This Fabulous Friday's post is about all things local! Yes, places like Outback Steakhouse, JCrew and HomeGoods are awesome places, don't get me wrong- but there's nothing like that local coffee shop, or local boutique clothing store and local home treasures store!
Here is a fun graphic to show the benefits of buying local:

For this topic, I'm going to focus on my personal favorite local places in Richmond.
Eating
You can't visit or be from Richmond if you don't like Buz and Ned's Real Barbecue. A Richmond staple, this barbecue is delicious! I HIGHLY recommend the hushpuppies and cinnamon bourbon apples!

Known for their bathtub salad bar, Strawberry Street Cafe is another of my favorite local Richmond eateries! I also recommend their chicken pot pie and their white cheddar mac and cheese, yummy!
I have some very fond memories as a kid eating at The Tavern with my family! Known for their yummy crabcakes, The Tavern is a great spot for families and for a casual date night.
Shopping
Owned by two sisters, Bliss 5812, at the Shops at Libbie and Grove is a great place to shop for designers like Hanky Panky, Tart Collections, French Connection, Splendid, and Ella Moss- just to name a few. Not only is this a great store but it's owned by two sisters who are so adorable!

The Shops at 5807 is one of my FAVORITE home accessories stores in town! Stocked with jewelry, glassware, clothes and home goods from local artists and vendors, you can find something for everyone on your list- including yourself! Definitely keep a lookout too for their annual sidewalk sale, as you can get some great deals there.
Tweed is another one of my favorite local stores! I would encourage you to shop at Tweed for your "preppy" friends and shop there if you need a bridal shower or wedding gift, as they do TONS of monogram!
Visiting
Lucky for me, Richmond is home to a lot of cool museums and is filled with history.
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is my absolute favorite places in Richmond to visit. Not your typical "stuck up" museum, the VMFA has done a great job at catering to the younger crowd. Who wouldn't want to have a bottle of wine for $12 and sit out on their patio looking at Chihuly art in their pond? SOLD! Not to mention their restaurant upstairs, Amuse, is a favorite! If you have family or friends coming in from out of town, Amuse is a great place to take them.

A summer favorite of mine are the Richmond Flying Squirrels- although not super local, considering they are a minor league MLB team, it still is a fun local thing to do. They have done a great job at making "theme" nights and really attracting different crowds each night. My favorite night they do is Bark in Park, in which you can bring your dog and a part of the ticket sale proceeds go to a local animal rescue organization.
I challenge you to start eating, shopping and buying more local! When you do, come back and post YOUR favorite local places where you live!
Happy Friday!
Lynn
